Some of the BEST Mexican Restaurants on Long Island |
| Tortilla Grill 335 New York Avenue, Huntington - (631) 423-1400 |
|
Downtown Huntington is home to some of the best Tex-mex food in the area - and perhaps in this entire part of the country. Located on New York Avenue, right in the center of town, Tortilla Grill is also one of the best bargains in the area.
The best bet at Tortilla Grill is to start with one of their soft shell tacos, prepared with homemade flour tortillas. The soft shell tacos come in 17 varieties - mostly staples, but there are also chorizo (sausage) and chicken stew tacos. Unless you're a pro, don't expect to get away without making a mess - especially if you get the beans. Burritos were not originally a part of the menu, but they were added several years ago, perhaps due to overwhelming request.

| Pancho's Border Grill 4119 Hempstead Turnpike, Bethpage - (516) 579-5500 |
|
Pancho's Border Grill has brought the taste of Texas and Mexico to the local confines of Bethpage. Sporting one of the most extensive Tex-Mex menus in the area, Pancho's also offers items that originated "North of the Border." Most likely, however, you'll want to check out their Mexican specialties like their nine varieties of Quesadillas (Sliced Steak, Avocado & Tomato, etc.) and their Tacos and Tacos Grande (Ground Chorizo, Guacamole, Chili-Roasted Shrimp, etc.) Pancho's also specializes in Texan Barbecue, with items like Western Baby Back Ribs and "Texas Tacos." They've also got extra large Southwestern Fajitas, for one or for two. There's Shrimp Fajitas, in addition to the usual suspects like Steak, Skirt Steak and Chicken.
