Some of the BEST Chinese Buffets on Long Island |
| East
Buffet 179 Walt Whitman Rd., (Rte 110 N.) Huntington Station (631) 385-0800 |

Like Chinese buffets? I would be 50 pounds lighter without them. East
Buffet in Huntington, opposite the Walt Whitman Mall, is still the Rolls
Royce of buffets. Dinner includes duck, prime rib, about 15 chicken
dishes, sushi, great Korean short ribs, orange beef, mucho shrimp and
fish dishes … it's the absolute best. Everything is prepared special,
there's no dishes sitting there waiting to be served, and they refill
constantly. A challenger to East could be Harvest Buffet in Great Neck
on Northern Boulevard. It's not as extensive as East, but it is a bit
more unusual with their selections, with many dishes that you won‘t
find anyplace else as well as a great smoothies bar. They have chicken
dishes that are outstanding, and probably the best desserts of any Chinese
buffet around; more about them in our Chinese buffet article. . |
| Zen
Palate 477 Old Country Road, Westbury (516) 333-8686 |
| Zen
Palate serve a strictly vegetarian menu filled with exotic, Asian flavors,
served with the flare of a Continental , uptown bistro. A typical item
is “Rose Petals”; home made soy pasta in a sweet rice ginger
sauce with garden vegetables, a taro spring roll, and brown rice. In
addition to the usual vegetarian suspects, Zen Palate offer curiosuly
tasty approximations of traditionally meat-filled delicacies. There
are Shepherd’s Pie Croquettes, minced vegetables surrounded by
mashed potatoes in a croquette, served with basil moo shu roll, and
picked cabbage. A Mini Vegi-Loaf combines tofu, chestnut and cilantro
crquettes, served over spaghetti in a tomato sauce. For something closer
to traditional Chinese cuisine, there is Gai-Mein, noodle with tofu,
kale and seaweed. Zen Palate also serve a full array of Asian morsels
like Scallion Pancakes, Miso Soup, Taro Spring Rolls, and Pan-Fried
Vegetables. |
| Jani 947-949 Hempstead Turnpike, Franklin Square(516) 437-5867 |
| With
a bargain menu that includes weekday lunch specials for $3.99, Jani
in Franklin Square is one of the best Japanese food buys on the Island.
Jani is well regarded for its extensive sushi menu, and for those working
in South or West Nassau and looking for a place to unwind at lunch,
it doesn’t get any better than this. They use only the freshest
fish, and it shows. Our resident sushi expert recommends the saba (mackerel),
and maguro (patty tuna). For those looking to take a step up from the
usual California Roll, Jani have an exceptional Spicy Tuna Roll, at
an unusually accommodating price, too. While Jani hits the spot during the weekdays’ hurried lunchtime hours, it is also an excellent place for a leisurely family meal at night or on the weekends. On Saturdays and Sundays, they offer a lunch buffet for the bargain price of $6.95, from 11: 30 am to 3:00 pm. Jani’s service is also incredibly friendly, fast and helpful, even during the busiest of hours. |
